Mr A. C. Bell, formerly of Stratford, and now fanning near Morrlnsville, was on a visit to Stratford to-day.

Mr John Mackhara, a ,highly-re-spected old resident of Hawera, celebrated his 90th birthday on Tuesday. Mr Mackham arrived in Hawera in 1878.

The Hon. A. M. Myers and Mr F. W. Manton have been chosen to represent the New Zealand Commercial travellers at tfye British Empire Exhibition.

A pleasant social gathering took place in the Anglican parish hall, Te Henui, last night, the purpose of the function being to welcome homo the vicar (Rev. G. F. Beale) and Mrs Beale, who arrived on Tuesday after six niohths’s absence in England, and to farewell the actingvicar, Rev. J. M. Beaufort.
