At a special meeting of the Taranaki District United Fire B igadea Association at Eltham on Wednesday night, it was decided to notify the affiliated Brigades that Elthim had abandoned the demonstration and asking if approval was given to the Patea Brigade’s offer to fill the breach. In connection with the visit on Saturday of the Wanganui Primary School footballers (numbering 21 boys) to Eltham (where they will be bilietted for the night), the lads will be motored to Stratford arriving about 10 a.m. They will he shown round the town and entertingd at the Stratford Primary School,, returning to Eltham in time for the match at 1.30.
The first challenge match in connection with the Taranaki Affiliated Clubs was played at Eltham last night, when the Egmont Cdub essayed to recover the Snooker Shield, now held by Eltham. Eltham won the games H, 0 Donnelly v. T. Lawson, F. Clemow v. P. G. Brooking and C. Cooper v. A. W. Rawles, Egmont Club’s sole win being in the game J. Petrie v. H. Gibson. Supper was provided by the Eltham Club. The Egmont Club, President, Mr W. Cannon, returned thanks for the hospitality extended, Mr H. Harrison, Eltham President, speaking in acknowledgment.
A team of Technical High School Boys to play football, and a team of High School Girls to play hockey, against the Stratford Technical High School teams will arrive In Stratford on August 28th, remaining <here until the 30th. The Stratford Fire Brigade soon after 7 o’clock last evening were summoned to Mr A. Yarndley’s resi-
’dence, Mountain Road North, where a Dodge motor car was on fire. It appears that Mr Yarndley after a journey put his car ,in the motor sned leaving everything apparently quite safe,' and went to ten- Later the car was discovered in flames and despite! ‘ the efforts of the Brigade the car whs a total wreck only the framework being left. The cause of the outbreak is unknown.
