There were thrilling scenes at the Winton House School, Winchester. Ono hundred pupils who were entrapped escaped in.ther night attire. The- master bfeld a roll-call and discovered that four Were missing. Three; escaped by placing wet sponges in their mouths. Damage estimated at £IOO,OOO was caused by the destruction of three lace factories at Newmilne, near Glasgow, containing the largest looms in the world. Serious damage was done at Orwell Park, the beautiful "Suffolk seat of ! the Hon. E. G. Prettyman, M.P., containing a collection of old maslters, 'but'tlile latter were saved.
