THE ASSOCIATION CAME. SOLE SELECTOR OPPOSED. Per Press Association. Dunedin/May 1, A meeting of the executive of the Otago Football Association decided to proceed with the protest against the 1 appointment of a sole selector ror the New Zealand team for Australia. 'ln -reference to Mr Fordhanvs statement; "That the Otago Association had written in ignorance of the subject, for Mr B. L. Salmond (selector) had had a letter from the association's selector giving the names,- of players available from the Otago 'district," the chairman stated tha l l£r Salmond had written to an individual instead of the association, and had his letter been sent to the y association, it would have been referred to the selector. It was regrettable that Mr Fordham should have said what he did. Hi 8 remarks indicated a cleavage between, the Otago Association and th e selectors, which wasnot so.

The New South "Wales Rugby League endorsed the New Zealand League's life disqualifications imposed on Tancred who is desirous of playing for the Balmain League. Th 6 endorsement is purely a formal action in accordance with the agreement between the New; South Wales and New Zealand bodies. Tancred was informed that he should approach the New Zealand League for removal of the ban before seeking to play in Austrtlia.

At a meeting of the Northern Division of the Taranaki Rugby Referees' Association, held on Monday night, itt was decided to sti-ictly enforce the full penalties regarding off-side and obstruction against wing-forwards. The wing-forward must remain behind the ball while lit i s in the scrum. It is also illegal for a player to obstruct ibis opponent in any way. Players are reminded that they must play in their club colors. Referees have received instructions to strictly enforce this rule.
