DEATH FROM FRIGHT

WOMAN BOUND HAND AND FOOT.

REMARKABLE MURDER CASE.

Brebs Association—Copyright. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Hobart, November 25

Remarkable evidence was given at an enquiry into the death of an elderly woman named Matilda Jackson, who was found dead, bound hand and foot, at her home at Sandy Bay. Henry Waterson, master mariner, has been charged with aiding and abetting her murder. The evidence disclosed that Waterson had been engaged to deceased’s daughter. The engagement was several times broken off owing to trivia! causes. *

Watersou, with the object of winning the family’s gratitude and securing the marriage, arranged with a friend to enter the house and bind Mrs Jackson. Then Waterson was to arrive, drive his assailant out and release the victim.

Evidence was also given that Waterson offered variously £4O to £7O to the man who did the job, and that Waterson and another man were seen to enter Jackson's house on the day of the tragedy. The medical evidence showed that death was duo to fright and shock. The enquiry had a dramatic ending.

Waterson and two other men were committed for trial on a charge of murder.
