Last night a conference was held in Stratford of totalisator stewards and supervisors of the Taranaki Jockey Club, and the Egmont, Opunake and Stratford Racing Clubs. Mr E. P. Webster was convenor of the conference, and Mr Nolan occupied the chair. The Stratford Racing Club was represented by Messr s H. B. Abraham, D. J. Malone, and J. C. Allen. An apology for absence was received from Mr S. Pitt. Messrs P. Skoglund, Rae and O’Callaghan (supervisors) were present, as also were the secretaries of the Clubs concerned. After discussion, resolutions were passed affirming the 'principle of making permanent appointments to form the nucleus of the totalisator staff. It -was also decided to recommend Clubs to appoint permanent totalisator stewards.
