NECESSITY FOR COMPLETION. At the last meeting of the Hawcra Chamber of Commerce, a. letter was read from, the Waitara Chamber of Commerce making the following suggestions:— (I) That the Hawera Chamber request the. local bodies in its district to pass strong resolutions for submission to the Minister for Public Works, urging the great necessity for the early completion of the Stratford Okahukura railway; (2) that the New Plymouth, Stratford, and Waitara chambers make an effort to send a joint delegation to Wellington to inteerviow the Minister on the matter. Tlie President (Mr J. ,B. Murdoch) said that the matter had been before public bodies for some time.' The line was the most important in New Zealand at the present time. Coal which now came from Huntly travelled 133 miles further than would be necessary if this line was They knew it was not a time for expenditure. but he understood that the Government was prepared to undertake certain public works for the purpose of giving employment, and this railway would give employment for ma*nv hundreds. The letter was received.
