At the first animal meeting of the Association of Superannuated Public Servants to-day the following resolution wa» carried: “We respectfully, but most emphatically protest, against the Government discontinuing after March 31 next, the assistance it i s now giving to lower-paid sUperaunuitants, and that we havthe same just right to this assistance ’on account of/the very greatly i; ’creased cost” of living as present members of the’ public’ service, who arc in every case assisted; further, that we’are rhuch more in need of it; tha 1 as there is no near prospect of the cosi of living 'being ’‘appreciably re duced in the principal essentials o' life, we'claim that the assistance tc superannuitants should he continued as is given to those still in,/the public service.” It was decided to write to the Prime Minister as follows;'“We, tbr> members of the Association of Superannuated Public Servants of .New Zealand, respectfully request that you will kindly ascertain from the Home Government what hag, been done by them in grantifag 'permanent and temporary assistance to suporanuated public servants, and to convey to, ns the result of such inquiries. We regret your Government has not given us a square deal as with Jie /Home Government in their dealings with their public servants, seeing that you are thoroughly Tut per ahstic and professedly following in their steps in. these matters. You have stated in Parliament that New Zealand is in a : better-financial position than other countries of the wond. Why this exceptional to the public servants of New Zealand?” . . It was decided that the time has now dome to ask the Government to consolidate the whole of the pub ic superannuation funds into one pub ic service 'superannuation fund.
