It is officially announced that the King has appointed "Viscount Buxton to he Chancellor of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, in succession to the Marquess of Lansdowne, who has resigned on account of ill-health. At the meeting of the Stratford Borough Council last evening, a motion of sympathy with ex-Councillor Arden in Ids recent severe attack ol paralysis was unanimously passed by the Council. To-day, it is stated, Mr Arden is improving gatisfactDr.lv. Mr G. Goldsworthy, who for the past twelve or thirteen years has been associated with the seed and manure department of the firm of Mr Newton Iving, in New Plymouth, severed Ids connection with the business on Saturday. Mr Goldsworthy was the recipient of a presentation.
At a meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society the secretary (Mr W. P. Okey) was presented with a silver sugar basin, cream jug, and butterdish on the eve of his approaching marriage.
The death occurred yesterday at at residence of her son. .Mr A. H. Huggett, Flint Road, of Mrs Ann Sarah Huggett, aged 70, relict of the late Mr Harry Walter Huggett. The late Mrs Huggett came to Stratford about forty years ago, and was highly esteemed by everyone who knew her. Mrs Huggett leaves one daughter (Mrs LiTley, Waikato), and three sons (Albert, Stratford, Arthur and William. New Plymouth.) 5-he was predeceased by her husband by about eight years. TTie funeral will leave Mr A. H. Huggett’s residence to-morrow for the Kopnatama cometary.
