In the recent list of appointment-8 of officers for duty on a hospital ship appears the name of Captain W. M. Thomson, M.D., of Hawera. !

Mr W. D. Anderson, of the Auckland legal firm, Wake and Anderson, was in Stratford to-day on a short business visit. Ho returns North tomorrow. Mr T. C. Street, of Oka to,' has receiver! word that his brother, LanceCorporal H. H. Street, who enlisted from Australia, and recently gained the Military Medal, has been killed in action.

Mr R. A. Chisholm, who died at Invercargill, was for thirty .years manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Thnam, and subsequently manager for five, years at Invercargill. He retired from the hank’s service nearly twenty years ago. One son, Mr. James Chisholm, is manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Hunterville.

Mr James Dawson /late Royal New Zealand Artillery), died at his residence at St. Kilda, Dunedin, on Sundav. The late Mr Dawson was a

member of the armed constabulary in Taranaki in the seventies, subsequently transferring to the artillery, - and going to Otago. He retired on superannuation 14 years ago, and wai in bis (iSth year at tbo time of death.

The Rev. S. J. Serpell died this week at the Thames. The deceased who was the New Zealand president of the Methodist Church in 1914, joined the Methodist' Church in Victoria in 1883, and came to New Zealand in 1891. He was stationed at ,Auckland, Thames, New Plymouth Timaru, Taranaki Street (Wellington), Mas tor too and, at the time of his death, at Thames. Dr. Serpell, a son of the deceased, was killed about a year ago in Franco. A daughter (Miss Serpell) and a son (Mr Bram Serpell) are left.
