“RED TRIANGLE DAY.”

“THE SOLDIERS’ FRIEND.”

Y.M.C.A.’S FINE WAR SERVICE.

Active organisation is proceeding throughout New Zealand in aid iof Red Triangle Day, which is being held to raise the funds necessary to maintain the war work of the Y.M.C.A. Over every marquee, hut, and dugout under the direction of the Y.M. C.A. in every theatre of war, and in every training camp, where New Zealand troops are quartered, the emblem of the Association, in peace and war The Red Triangle—proclaims a welcome. The three sides of the triangle represent “Mind, Body, Spirit, and to the care of" these, in association with our soldiers, every effort that the Y.M.C.A. has been able to call up, has been directed. Apart from the facilities which it provides at all its centres for, spiritual advice to soldiers who seek such counsel, what may be termed the service to the man is a paramount feature of the war-work of the Y.M. C.A.

In all the battle' areas there are Red Triangle huts with full equipment, where the necessary material is provided for physical, social, and general comfort of New Zealand s fighting men. Nearly 90 per cent, of the letters written to the Dominion by men at the front are'on material supplied free by the Y.M.C.A. In all Y.M.C.A. huts and others centres, the men are enjoined by conspicuous reminders on the walls to Write Horae,” “Don’t forget to write home,” and “Write Home First.” At the enquiry bureaus of the Association soldiers are assisted in numberless ways, from the cabling and banking of money, to the making of wills. Thousands of inquiries for friends and relatives concerning missing and wounded men are carried out weeklv, and such investigations are also made through the Y.M.C.A. World’s Committee regarding New 1 Zealand prisoners of war. In every respect the Y.M.C.A. is the tireless friend of the soldier, and it is only reasonable to hope that appreciation of its efforts will be expressed by the public of New Zealand through the Red Triangle Day appeal for funds to maintain this good work among the boys.
