DECEITFUL GERMAN RULERS.
NOTORIOUS INTERVIEWS. Pi ess Association — Copyright, Aastra. lip" and N.Z. Cable Association. London, December 20. English papers are giving prominence to the New York "Tribune's" account of the Kaiser's interview in 1908 with Mr W. B. Hale, an American correspondent, and point out the manner in which the German war party suppressed the interview, realising that Germany was not ready to fight. The Kaiser, therefore, went to Highcliffe Castle, Hampshire, and gave the famous "Daily Telegraph" interview, dilating upon his love of England, and things English, though a few weeks earlier he had raved to Mr Hale, about the Anglo-Japanese Alliance in such terms that the publication of the interview would have meant war in 24 hours. The newspapers insist on the impossibility of trusting German rulers who acted in this fashion in a time of peace.
