FAIRY TALE REVIVED.
RED RIDING HOOD UP TO DATE.
As Little Red Riding Hood approached her grandmother's cottage, she said:
“After all, these are perilous tune-, and perhaps 1 should take no chances.” So stepping to the nearest telephone booth, siie called up the Secret Service. . \
“Tell me,. kind sir,” she said, “if yon think it is safe for me to visit my grandmother.” .
“We w.ill let you know in a few moments,” replied the Secret Service? At the end of a few moments an officer in plain clothes approached, and said;
“Little Red Riding Hood, accompany vine, and I will show you something.” Approaching the cottage, Red Riding Hood noticed the ground strewed with bombs, but, having every confidence in her escort, she said nothing. Her companion, opened the door, and led her into the bedchamber that her grandmother occupied. There, sitting up in bed, was the most pronounced pro-German wolf you ever saw. He would have eaten up Red Riding Hood in a jiffy if it had not been for the presence of the Secret Service man.
“You must not stay here,” said that gentleman to the wolf. “1 am terribly sorry, but you are a suspicions character, and 1 advise \ on to ge‘ along. You can step into the pantry "s you go out and get a square meal Please hurrv.”
The pro-German wolf got up leisurely, went to the pantry, and filler up, all the time grumbling to himsel' that he disliked cold food, and the loped away, and was soon lost in tin distance. Meanwhile, Red Ridinghooc turned to her saviour.
“I don’t quite . understand,” sin said, “why you should have been .«■ dreadfully polite to such a horribl beast. It seems to me , that yoi should have interned him at once.”
“Well you see,” said the Score! Service man, “I cannot obey my per sonal inclinations. I am under th orders of the Government'and th' pro-German has a pull of some sor which prevents interference wit! him.”—“London Opinion.”
