The Wanganui-New Plymouth train this afternoon- was about an hour and a-half late arriving at " Stratford .
An Auckland message states that Stanley Gerrard, a soldier on lin.Tl leave from Tauherinikau, was found dead in bis bed this morning. He ■complained yesterday of headache.
A Pl-ess Association telegram from Dunedin to-day .states: In reply to a question Sir Janies Allen to-day said that so far as he knew, he was not going to England next year.
Patriotic Mart returns on Saturday wore as under; Tea rooms (Mes* dames Thorpe and Freer) £o Ids; Mart (Mesdames F. M. Thompson and Paynter) £8 18s. The mart promotors wish to thank Mr G. Pugh for kindly auctioning the lamb.
Weather forecast.—The indications are for westerly wind, strong to gale, but with southerly tendency shortly. Weather will probably be very boisterous rain to be expected with rivers rising shortly. Barometer is falling fast, but is unsteady.—Bates, Wellington.
\ At the Motuihi enquiry (states an Auckland message to-day), Sergt.-Ma-jor Keogh gave evidence that the Germans took with them 10 fowls and two turkeys prepared in concentrated form similar to meat extract, 400 yolks of eggs in spirit distilled from jam, four kerosene tins of boiled water, and a supply of bombs made by them on the .island. The fowls were kept by the prisoners as their own property on the island.
