The death is reported of another Eltham lad, Private Denis Brew. Brigadier-General R. B. Bradford, V.C., has died of wounds. He was 26 years of age, and the youngest bri-gadier-general in the British army. The death occurred at Auckland on Thursday of Mrs Long, widow of the late Mr Francis Long, an old Post Office official who was for many years postmaster at Patea. The engagement is announced by an exchange of Miss Neville ThorneGeorge, of Auckland, and sister of Mrs A’. Riddiford, to Captain GageWilliams, late A.D.C. to His Excellency the Governor-General. Mr James Robson, senior, Brecon Road, father of Archie Carlisle Rob-i son, who was killed in action at Armentieres on December 24, 1916, has recently erected a monument in tha old Stratford cemetery to the memory ol his son, who fell in battle, and also to a brother and sister who pre-< deceased him.

The Mayor (Mr J. W. McMillan) received the following telegram on Saturday from Sir Joseph Ward; “I wish you and your Council the season’s greetings, and trust that 1918 may produce a pronounced victory for the 'Allies, and see established an honourable peace that will last for generations.’’ A reply reciprocating the sentiments expressed was sent by the Mayor to Sir Joseph.
