VALEDICTORY.

STRATFORD MICH SCHOOL. TWO presentations. Prim- to breaking up for the term liolidnvs this afternoon. teachers or fcl, ° Stratford District High School and scholars of the Secondary Department, assembled in one of the classrooms to bid farewell to two teachers in the persons of .Miss Edith A. Jackson and Air A. Heron. Miss Jackson is shortly to be married. Mr Heron is proceeding to camp with the next draft. The visitors present were Mr 11. Masters (chairman of the Taranaki Education Board), Mr J. W. Boon (chairman of the Stratford School Committee) and Mrs Boon. In making presentations to Miss Jackson, Mr Masters said the Education Board was extremely sorry that Miss Jackson was leaving, as she was one of their host teachers, and they I(dt the loss of such a valuable servant all the more in view of the present shortage of teachers. They all held Miss Jackson in very high regard, and wore losing not only a teacher but a citizen, as apart from the school duties she had been inter-

ested in the welfare of the town and children. On behalf of the teachers he presented .Miss Jackson with a handsome silver ton set, and on behalf of the girls of her class with an oak salad bowl, which presents were convoyed to her with . the very best wishes for the recipient’s happiness in her future life.

Miss Jackson shortly replied, sincerely thanking them for their tokens of esteem. She would always look back to the time spent in Stratford with the' kindliest of feelings. Mr J. TV. Boon, in making a presentation to Mr Heron, said the latter was going away to fight for those present and would be their representative at the front. He was sorry that their young men had to go to the war from the district, and especially from the school. Ho was sorry that he had to go, but pleased he was going, as men were wanted at the front. Mr Heron had been with them lor some time and would no doubt always remember Stratford. He handed him a wristlet watch from the teachers of the school and scholars ol the Secondary Department and hoped that the recipient would have a good time both in camp and on the held. .Vlr Heron, in reply, said he was very grateful to the donors of the gifts. He also was pleased he aas going. .Since he had been amongst them they had had a good time together and the articles would iciuiud him of his many I fiends, the teachers, and hoys and girls. Mr Tyrer (headmaster) said he had been asked to make some presentations. As they knew, Miss Jackson was entering a new sphere, ol life. They had heard of the man who had “cleaned the windows, scrubbed the floor, and polished up the handle ol the big front door-' (Daughter.) As a memento irom the girls of her class, he handed Miss Jackson “a useful and ornamental scrubbing brush,'’ and expressed the hope that it would scrub out any unhappiness or misery that she might encounter. (Applause.) Miss Jackson was also the recipient of a box ol sweets.
