The monthly meeting of the Council waa held yesterday, Councillor .Walters being in the chair owing to the absence ol' the Chairman who sent a note of apology. West Riding.—The filling at Mr Hooper's .has been . made safe for traffic till such time as the crusher is finished in this Riding, when the Work will be completed. The Pernio and Opunake No. 1 road- Metal ;lias been crushed. The plant is now, engaged On the Cardiff Road near Mr Marehant's where the road has been regraded prior to .metalling. Brook's Road will be the next to receive attention. Iluiroa Riding.—-General surface work;has been.attended Jo during the month. He said the settlers were doing all they could to keep the road passable, but unless something more was done soon, it would he impossible to get the milk to the factory. He was paying rates to the Moa Road Hoard, but understood that by arrangement between the local bodies the upkeep of the road in question was undertaken by the Stratford Council. He asked the Council either to do something; in the matter of improvements or to inform him if the road was under the control of the Moa Road Board. In this connection a deputation of. settlers in the locality waited on the Council, and after the Council had heard their statement, it was resolved -on, the motion of Cr. Anderson, seconded by Cr. Coleman, that a committee to consist of Crs. Hatha'way,,.B.as.ki"1 fi and the. Engineer he appointed to make thorough enquiries and report to next meeting. In reply to Cr. Smith, the Engineer stated that an expenditure of £SO would make the road passable, but it would require about £3OO to put it into good order.
