The Coal Strike
OUTLOOK DISCOURAGING' SYDNEY IN GLOOM. Press Association—Copyright. i Sydney, November 21. The greatest apprehension is felt regarding the attitude of miners. Reports from various coalfields are gloomy and confusing in the aggregate. A meeting of the South Coast miners resolved against the ballot, which is again postponed. The northern district is apparently awaiting the result of this meeting before taking action. The gas restrictions caused a rush for kerosene cooking stoves and kerosene. The stocks of stoves are practically exhausted, but there are ample supplies of kerosene. doom prevails in the city. To-night the newspaper offices and shops are working with the aid of lamps and candles. A patrol of men is out to prevent contravention of the regulations and enforce penalties. The Walsh Island men haye been paid off, whilst the dockyard workshops have closed indefinitely.
