JOTTINGS.
Wounded soldiers belonging to the Highlan<s regiments who wear the kilt in action now state that their experience at the front has convinced them that the kilt in modern warfare is a serious handicap. They have been■ ill the trenches through long vigils and protracted periods of fighting, often under heavy rain. When they require to advance from the trench they find the extra, weight of the soaked kilt a hindrance; In rushing the enemy in a charge the kilt keeps flapping against the soldier's limbs, so much so that the friction has often left sores and made marching painful. Ano'thei disadvantage of the kilt is that i' offers a clear mark about the knees for the rifle fire of the enemy. Evidently the garb of old Gaul is destined to gc out of fashion on.the battlefield, the London correspondent of the Daify Despatch remarks.
