FRENCH PROGRESS REPORT.
(Received 10.0 a.m.) Paris, December 23.
A communique states: We progressed slightly between the sea and Mienport, on the Westeudo road, and also in the district of Steeustraete and Bixschoote, where ,we captured a wood and redoubt. We recaptured the villages of Jiveuchy and East Bethuue, and captured the remainder of the enemy’s trenches at Perthes les Hurlas, amounting to an average gain of half a mile. We progressed north-east of Beaufsejour and also at Bois la Gruie, where we advanced 250 metres after mining and blowing up two of the German Hires. LEADING ' BELGIAN AVIATOR BLOWN TO PIECES. v (Received -8.50 a.m.) Dunkirk, December 23. Deschamps, the leading Belgian aviator, on returning from a fligTht, landed heavily and exploded a bomb he was carrying. Deschamps was blown to pieces, and a dozen spectators were wounded.'
