John Olive Sharland (chemist) and Veitch and Allan (retailers) were both convicted at the Wellington Magistrate’s Court to-day for selling paraffin oil which was below standard. The Press Association says the Department did not apply for a penalty, desiring that the case merely act as a warning.

A Wellington Press Association telegram this afternoon states that Jacob Thomas Wilhide, who was described as an elder and evangelist, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court 911 three informations concerning the distribution of ah indecent document, which referred to the ravages of venereal diseases and was convicted and was fined £5- on each charge. The Magistrate, in his comment on thp case, said iff was not the duty of any religious sect to impart such knowledge. . This should be left to others who knew more about the matter.
