ATTEMPTS BY GERMANY TO EMBROIL SWEDEN. CROWING FRIENDLINESS TOWARDS RUSSIA. [United Press 'Association.] (Received 8.25 a.in.) London, December 17. The Daily Mail’s Petrograd correspondent says the attitude of Sweden is watched with the greatest interest. The German Minister Stockholm is daily addressing threatening notes to the Swedish Foreign Office regarding the alleged transit of articles which Germany claims as contraband to England and Russia. The correspondent adds: “The systematic attempt to coerce Sweden into the conflict is led by Austria. It is recognised that the Swedish attitude of public opinion is more friendly to Russia than at the beginning of the war.”
