PREFERENCE TO BRITISH-MADE GOODS.

. The Trade and Industries Committee of the Colonial Institute passed a resolution expressing pleasure at the increased preference for British goods, which would do much towards increased inter-Empire trade and promote Imperial unity.
UNIONISTS SUPPORTED THE CO-
VERNMENT.

As the result of an informal meeting of the leading unionists in Britain, Lord Xansdowne and Mr Bonar. Law wrote to Mr Asquith prior to the declaration of war, saying that all their colleagues whom they were able to consult were of opinion that it would be fatal to the honor and security of 'the United Kingdom if she hesitated in supporting France and Russia. At the present juncture the Unionists offered the Government unhesitating support in say measures necessary,
