ENORMOUS CASUALTIES. United Press Association. Copenhagen, December 5. German official returns show that the German and Austrian casualties for four mouths averaged 20,000 daily, or a total of over two and a quarter millions. VIOLATION OF NEUTRALITY. A DESIGN ON SWITZERLAND. (Received 8.40 a.m.) Paris, December 6. Le Matin states that maps of Switzerland were found on the dead bodies of several German officers, which were printed in Germany with Italian place names for the use of Italian officers during the attack on France through Switzerland. Le Matin recalls the Kaiser's protestation in respect of Swiss neutrality. DEFENDING THE RHINE. POWERFUL WORKS. (Received 10.50 a.m.) London, December 6. Private letters from Germany state that foreigners have been expelled from the eastern banks of the Rhine, which is being prepared with powerful uefences. HUNGARY'S SAD PLIGHT. A REQUEST FOR TROOPS', (Received 9.15 a.m.) Petrograd, December 6. There are complaints that the Hungarian plains arc largely left open to the Russians' attack. Hungary has officially requested Germany to send two or three army corps. The relations between Austria and Hungary are much less cordial.

A Zurich journalist, after a tour of Germany, declares that while much dissatisfaction was caused by the dofeats, the Austrians and Germans are still convinced that they are going to win. Great hopes are reposed in Gehaz. The populace are daily expecting to hear of serious disturbances in India. There is much discussion. AT FRIEDRICHSHAFEN. PROTECTING .HE AIRSHIP SHEOS. Times and Sydney Sun B«rvioeo. (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, December 6. A Swiss engineer relates that a groat network construction has been built to protect the Zeppelin sheds at Friedriehshafen. The sentinels and aircraft guns have been doubled. Five powerful searchlights have been installed on the hills to illumine the whole district.
