A DISASTROUS FIRE.

A disastrous fire, which was discovered in Mr J. G. Wilson's fine residence at Bulls at 2 o'clock this afternoon, resulted in its total destruction, together with the beautiful garden,.surrounding fences, ornamental "trees, gates, etc. The building contained from 12 to 14 was one of ,the finest residences in the district. MYSTERIOUS EXPLOSION.
Invercargill, November 25
R. A. Mullan, t a farmer of Underwood, stowed fifteen pounds of gelignite »in a shed adjacent to his homestead; His wife went to get somewheat from the shed for the fowls, and while distributing it a terrific explosion occurred. The shed was completely shattered, little of it remaining; and ihany of the fowls being killed, and pieces of timber being picked up several chains away. Every window in the dwelling was broken, and the end of the house blown in. Mullan, who was in one of the rooms, was thrown to the floor, while other members received ,a, Revere shaking. A ,_Bfc jruracu-lous-means, Mrs Mullan, f\vh"o was'.within a few feet of the scene of the explosion, escaped excepting for a' few minor' bruises' caused by her being thrown to the earth,. The cause of the explosion i is\ a- complete mystery. PRESBYTERIAN SQUABBLE. Dunedin, November 25.
At the Presbyterian Assembly 'this afternoon, the Rev. P. B. Frasei\waa called dn to substantiate the charge that the theology taught by Professor Dickie, and the theology recommenced by him, were subversive of the fundamental truth of the Church. Rev. Fraser made a lengthy speech in support' of his charge. He produced a document written by a student under Professor Dickie, but was refused permission to read it' until he gave the name of the author, which he declined to do.
The Assembly passed a resolution affirming that the charges had not been substantiated, and also expressed entire confidence in Professor Dickie. Rev Fraser. said the Assembly had no power to compel him to close his month. He intended to act as his conscience dictated. Dr. Gibb said there was such a thing Assembly had power to deal with it.
