Senator Pearce (Minister of Defence) has officially declared that it would be better for the country to allow all enemy subjects to continue at their ordinary occupations. ; • FLOURMILLERS DISSATISFIED. Sydney, November 16. The secretary of the Mill Employees’ Union states that two big flour mills have closed, and that others have shortened hands or are closing, marjy I employees being rendered idle as the outcome of tho price of flour being' fixed at £9 17s fid, at which figure millers are unwilling to sell. TROUBLE AT OCEAN ISLAND. Melbourne, November 16. A steamer from Ocean Island states that just before she left troops were landed at the request of the British residents, to keep the Gennaps in chock. It is alleged that 40 Germans, armed with rifles, marched through the island, and threatened to shoot anyone who interfered with their plana.
