CORRESPONDENCE.

HAWKINS' v. GIBSON AND LAURENCE.

[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir, —In your issue of Tuesday last appear two letters signed respectively “Fred Laurence” and “W. Gibson.” „It appears from these letters that Laurence was the too), of Gibson at the meeting, and riot Gibson the tool of Laurence. The point does not matter—they are both brave men. However, neither, it would appear, is an elector in this district, and neither of them at the. meeting was man enough to attack me. It may interest the public to k plow that Mr Gibson is a surveyor and Mr Fred Laurence is his handy man. Presumably, Mr Gibson is an educated man, but the style and wording of his letter does not display that “good taste” for which “Reformers” claim a monopoly. Mr Gibson is courageous, of course. He Used his unfortunate servant at my meeting to make remarks which he himself had not the manliness to make. Both of them are now smarting under, the lash and courageously (at a distance) are striving to do me an injury. Personally, T am satisfied to leave the whole to the judgment of the large ami enthusiastic meeting that assembled in the Te Wera Hall on the night of my visit. May I, in conclusion, advise Mr Gibson in the most kindly spirit, to. in future, when he has anything to sayin opposition to a political candidate, not, use his hired man for the purpose but to “play the man” and make the attack himself. Finally, let me say also that I would feel more respect foi Mr Gibson had lie displayed sufficient courage to discuss matters with me personally before I left Te^ Wera.— Yours, etc., W. H. HAWKINS.
