DID KITCHENER VISIT PARIS?
The name of Kitchener, it is said, is a name to conjure with on both sides of the Channel. The Paris correspondent of the New York World declared that it was a common belief in Paris that Kitchener had visited the French capital oh September 3. when the retreat of the Allies had brought the Germans within sight of their goal, and that this visit was largely responsible for the trip-hammer blow that drove back the enemy’s right, and made it necessary if or - the advance of the centre to come to a full-stop.
The belief that Kitchener visited Paris i secretly has also been expressed in the United States. A New York lady, who returned from France by the steamer said that she saw a motor car drive down to the quay at Havre, Kitchener stepped out, and went on board a destroyer that had just come into the port. The warship immediately cast loose, steamed rapidly out of the harbor, aWI was out o$ sight in a few minutes.
