LOCAL AND GENERAL.
At Gore a large meeting of Liberal supporters representing all parts of the electorate last night unanimously elected Mr W. G. Mehefferty, of Invercargill), to contest the Mataura seat in the Liberal interest. Mr Mehefferty, who was present, acceded to the request.
A Melbourne cablegram gives the Mount Lyell monthly report to October 28th. It shows that 27,178 tons of ore were treated, producing (142 tons of blister copper, containing 6.45 tons copper, 3877 ounces silver, and 778 ounces (gold. The half-yearly report to September 30th shows a net profit of £29,317, after writing off £11,117 for mine prospecting,and £17.376 for depreciation of mine plant. No dividend will he declared.
