The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1914. A SOUTH AFRICAN VIEW.
The South African Press is fairly outspoken in its war comments. The Johannesburg Star on September 14th remarks : A good many people are now openly expressing the opinion, which they doubtless held before, but did not like to elaborate through courtesy to the cousin of our King, that the Kaiser is not a really sane being. It is pointed out that at the time of his birth it was imagined that lie was stillborn—it would have been a good thing for Europe had this been so—that his left arm is deformed, and his left ear ■affected, and that in addition to malformation of mind which in similar cases accompanies malformation of body, the trait of insanity exists in the Hohenzollcrn family. A London paper is responsible for the following:—“For years it has been an open secret in Berlin that after seeing a picture or listening to a piece of music that pleased hnn he would say to his intimates, ‘Ah, you liked that. Well, I will tell you a secret. I am the artist or composer.’ It is also a common practice for him to purchase the works of unknown artists and pass them off as his own accomplishment.” Following on which, his well-known attitude with regard to the Divinity would deprive the circumstance of surprise if we learned that ho insisted on claiming a share it) the making of the Universe. He has at any rate tried his hardest to remould its geographical division, and is likely to find that he has succeeded, but in an unexpected manner. Europe without 1 a Germany should be the final settlement insisted on by the Allies if "victorious. This can be the only really retributive and satisfying action when dealing with the mad ruler of a brute nation.
