THE MARITZ REBELLION.
DANCER ZONE IN THE NORTH.

The general feeling is that the crisis is past, though the danger will not bo ended till De Wet’s commando has been dispersed. The ability of leadership and resource is all on the side of the Government. Bloemfontein and the southern and eastern portions of the Free State arc 1 sound. The danger zone is the northern area, where De Wet is active, and has actualty forced Englishmen to join the commando.
IN THE GAMEROONS. BOMBARDMENT OF DUALA BY TH.E| CHALLENGER. (Received 9.20 a.m.) '( i London, November 3. A bluejacket’s letter describing the bombardment of Douala states that the Germans laid mines and sank ships in the river. The gunboat Dwarf removed the mines and blew up the wrecks. The Challenger arrived and went full speed to Duala, where she was not. expected, and destroyed half the town and silenced the batteries.
(Duala is the chief town of the Cameroons, Germany’s West African possession).
