TEMPARARY PREMISES.
FOR THE BOROUGH COUNCIL. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night, when there were present: The Mayor 'Mr W. V. Kirkwood), and Crs T. Reader, J. W. Boon, J. B. Richards, R. McK. Morison, J. H. Thompson, J. Fredric, J. Masters and N. J. King. The Mayor reported that Mr Thomson had informed him that he could not allow the Council to use his loom for the twelve months which might he necessary. He and Cr, Boon had inspected the fire station, and they recommended that the Brigade’s meeting room should he used as the Council Chamber, a part of the mam hall being partitioned to form a public office. Crs King and Masters supported the suggestion. Cr. Thompson proposed that consideration should be given to the matter of enlarging the building on the frontage. He asked if there would still be sufficient room for the Brigade’s gear. The Mayor said there was ample room.
Or. Boon moved that the suggestions of the sub-committee should be given effect to.
The motion was carried, and Cr. King was added to the sub-commit-tee. The Mayor drew attention to the fact that when set up the subcommittee was given power to act. It is estimated that the proposed alterations will cost £3O. The subcommittee was given power to purchase a safe and the necessary furniture.
