PLUCKY WOMAN SAVES HUSBAND AND CHILDREN. [Fsil pßHßffl Aebooumon.J Wellington, October 26. A lire attended by somewhat sensational circumsatnces took place at Courtenay Place this morning in the premises occupied by Robert Martin as a sweet shop. He was engaged in boiling down sugar on a gas stove in an upstairs room tor the purposes 01 his business. The sugar overflowed and started a blaze which produced great quantities of smoke. Martin fell unconscious, and two small children sleeping in an adjoining room were also overcome by the fumes of the sugar and the gas which was escaping. The mother of the children was awakened by a cry from her husband, and, rushing in, dragged her husband out into the open air. Returning in haste, she found her children gasping and foaming at the mouth, and apparently dying. The brave woman seized one and carried it into a place of safety. The man soon recovered, but one of the children was some time in regaining consciousness. All have practically recovered from their narrow escape. The fire brigade was soon on the scene, and the fire was extinguished without much difficulty.
