(Peb Pbebh Asbootath ( if.l Trentham, October 26. Theri is a large attendance for the Second day of the Wellington Spring meeting. The weather is fine but dull, and the going is hard. Results; — Tararua Handicap, of 140sovs., one mile.—Colombus 1, Arlington 2, Chillies 3. Scratched: Steinheil. .Won by two lengths. Time, Imin 41 r-ssec.

Hack Hunters’ Steeplechase, of 140 sovs., 2i- miles.—Taurangi 1, Tyrannic 2, Grit Lawless 3. All started. Only the placed horses finished. Time, 5 min 35sec.

Spring Trial Stakes, of lOOsovs., six furlongs.—Miacara 1, Martinques 2, Need 3. Also started: Confirm, Rockabye, Martyress, Rosiam, Hushaby. Won easily by three lengths. Time Imin 15sec.

Pearce Handicap, of 200sovs., one mile.—Fair Rosamond 1, Birkful 2, Bonny Helen 3. Scratched: Byron, Maniaroa. Won by half a length, third horse close up. Time, Imin 41 sec.

WAVERLEY RAGES. Waverley, October 26. The annual meeting of the WaverleyWaitotara Racing Club was held today in dull but fine weather. The attendance is very large. Morton Maiden, of 105sovs., seven furlongs.—Quo Vadis 1, Fore 2, Captain Miro 3. Scratched: Mahlsock, Arena, Flying Camp, Shandon Bells, j Won by four lengths.

For several years (states a Wellingto Press Association telegram) Labour Day has been celebrated with' a monster picnic at Day’s Bay. This year there was a procession to Newtown Park, and the sports there were revived. The procession was a great success, and many fine trades displays were made, those by the typographical union and shearers’ union being awarded first and second prizes respectively. \ The weather was fine.
