(Notes by Cicero.)

The Wellington Racing Club received great acceptances for their spring meeting, which opens to-mor-row, and concludes on Monday. Additional interest is centred in the fixture by reason of the fact that form at Trentham is a guide to the Biccarton Carnival (New Zealand Cup meeting). Twenty first-class "hacks" accepted for the Rimutaka Hack. George, Master Achilles, and Steinhall appear well in. A baker's dozen appear in the Hack Steeplechase. The Pole and Waiwetu are a likely pair on form. A brilliant lot are engaged in the Shorts Handicap. Tete-a-Tete and Play-off can gallop fast over this distance. The horses engaged in the Wellington Handicap cannot be described as first-class, but, nevertheless, some fair handicap horses are engaged. Camulus, Awahpu and Undecided command respect., .The majority of those engaged in the Wellesley Stakes are practically unknown to the public, but the winner may come from Messrs Clifford, Ormond, . or Reid's youngsters. If Multiply has the chance many give him in the New Zealand Cup, then the Wainui Handicap is as good as over. , Negative ran nicely at Otaki, and is extremely well. Some smart beginners will start in the Scurry, and Ardent, Miraculous and Lady Black should be well suported. For the Champion Plate, on the second day, though the held is a good one, I should not lie surprised to find the race resolve itsalf into a contest—and a ding-dong go at that—between Reputation and First Flight.
