THE PRICE OF FLOUR.
MILLERS PROTEST TO THE PREMIER. [Pbb Press Association.] Wellington, October 2. A deputation of Canterbury flour millers outside the Flourmillprs’ Association waited on the Premier today and made' a most emphatic protest against the prices for wheat and flour fixed by the commission. The main contention of the deputation was that it was quite impossible to carry on their business at the prices fixed—4s 9d for wheat and £ll 15h for flour. It was stated that over 50,000 bushels of wheat had been purchased at from 5s to 5s 3d before prices Were fixed, and at such, prices flour could not })a sold at a profit under £l3 a ton. Other members pointed out that even if there had been no war the price of wheat and flour must have gone up, probably as high as 6s a bushel.
The Premier pointed out that the Government could not and would not interfere with the' Commission, hut agreed that further evidence might no doubt be heard. This was a matter for the commission to decide.
