HOME DEFENCE CORPS.
A GOOD DAY'S WORK. Members of the Home Defence Corps put in a good day's work yesterday. Light showers fell in the afternoon, but not enough to interfere with operations at the riflo range, though the cold wind made things rather uncomfortable for those waiting their turns on the mounds. About thirty paraded at the rifle range, and fifteen shots were fired—ten at 300yds and five at 500yds. The smaller number at the longer range was owing to the hour growing late. A dozen men of the mounted section paraded for mounted drill, and after doing some useful work a number of the members of the section proceeded to the rifle range and indulged in shooting at .the 500yds range. In the evening about sixty members pf both sections paraded at the school for foot drill. The mounted men were drilled separately by Lieut. Wilson, and the infantry were drilled in two squads under Mr McMillan (O.C. corps), and SergeantMajor Grey. The men fell in at the Defence Office and marched to the school, and after parade marched back to the office, the marching in both cases being of an excellent order. At Monday's drill Mr McMillan and Sergt.-Major Grey will exchange squads.
