MUCH WRECKAGE WASHED UP ON THE BEACH. XPhb Pbem Association ] Wellington, September 26. The Chief Postmaster at Greymouth has sent the following to the Secretary of Telegraphs, Wellington: The Ten-Mile telephonist reports that wreckage is coming ashore consisting of butter, brooms, etc., and one piece ,of board marked “Remuera.” Am obtaining fuller particulars. The police and Customs have been informed. .The wreckage coming ashore at Tenmile is' probably from the local steamer Kairaki. The piece .of timber marked “Remuera” is part of a packing case, and the Kairaki is known to have shipments ex Remuera. WRECKAGE RECOGNISED. Greymouth, September 21. » The wreckage found at Ten-Mile is recognised 'by the local agent as belonging to the steamer Kairaki, 181 tons. Two lifebuoys bearing the name “Kairaki” were also washed ashore. She was due here to-day from Wellington. Search parties have gone out to endeavor to find traces of the ship and crew. So far ho news of the latter is to hand. Ten-Mile Creek" is op the sea coast, ten miles from Greymouth. It is a gold mining locality.
