On the Sea

SINKING THE HELA.

SMART WORK BY BRITISH SUBMARINE EB. London, September 17. Early on Sunday morning two or three British submarines were stalking the Hela. The E 9, on coming to the surface, found the Hela within range. She immediately dived and launched two torpedoes. A muffled sound told that one torpedo had found its billet. The E 9 remained below, and when she came to the surface the Hela had a heavy list, and other non-fighting German vessels werg assisting her. The submarines again dived, and when they rose the Hela had disappeared. The Germans did not detect the submarines, which escaped without a shot being fired.
