A member of the crew of the Arathusa says : We came upon the. German cruisers in the mist and fought almost in darkness at 2000 yards. The Alpthusa's six inch guns opened, and an inferno of noise followed. Th« *y«S ached and smarted with the acrid, stifling fumes of picric, acid. A second German cruiser came up, and buWtrftg shells rained around and upon tk* struggling Arethusa, till, with all say* one of her guns silenced, she stood out of the fight for fifty-five minutes whila the wreckage was cleared, thfe wounded, were attended, and the guns ww again fit for action. She then ren»w»d the conflict until the enemy was beaten.
