These baskets will be sold by- auction, the successful bidder then having slipper with tho lady who supplied the basket. Tho whole of the prbceeds are to be devoted to the War Fund.
The Wellington army of footballers should arrive in Stratford to-morrow. After their strenuous battle with tho Auckland forces they will rest for a couple of days in Stratford before engaging tho Taranaki defenders. Throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand the issue of the conflict will be awaited with considerable interest. On next Thursday evening the.’first question asked will, of course, bo of the war, the next will be of the contest for tho Ranfurly Shield. The Taranaki team can be depended on to put up a big fight. The fortnight’s spell will have done them good. There should be an absence of the staleness apparent at tho last match. The Wellingon team, too, will do their utmost to win.
