Telegram from Colonel Logan to the Governor.—August . 31st: I have the honor to inform your Excellency that the expedition under my command occupied Apia on August 31st, with the assistance of the ships of the Allied fleets. The Governor of Samoa has surrendered himself to me and is being sent with the prisoners to Fiji. I am glad to be able to inform your Excellency hat there was no opposition, that there have been no serious casualties since the expedition started and that the health of the troops is excellent. Telegram from the senior Naval officer, Naval Division, to the Governor. ■ —The expedition arrived at Apia on August 29th, western time, and in view of the overwhelming force the Governor had no choice but to igve in without opposition. The landing of the troops commenced about one o’clock p.m. and was carried out with great expedition, reflecting great credit on the population concerned. The British flag was hoisted on the shore at 12.30 p.m. and Colonel Logan took over control from the German authorities at 2.30 p.m. At 8 a.m. on August SOth the Union Jack brought from New Zealand was officially hoisted and » proclamation was read in the presence of the naval and military officers, native chiefs, local residents, etc. A salute of 21 guns was fired by H.M.S. Psyche. The German Governor was sent with the prisoners to Suva. The German-yi'-i re less station is at present hors do combat, but it is expected to he in : use shortly. The completion of the installation taken from New Zealand is expected to-morrow. The new Administrator. Colonel Logan, visited H.M.S. Psyche and received a salute «f thirteen guns.—(Signed); Marshall.
