HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
[Pib Fbxbi Amooiaxion. ] Wellington, August 28. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Imprest Supply Bill, No. 3, passed through all its stages without amendment. The Public Bodies’ Leases Bill was read a second time, without debate. The Council went into committee upon the Master and Apprentices Bill, which was reported without any important amendments. The Council rose at 3 p.m.
The House met at 7.30. The following Bills were introduced by Governor’s Message and read a first time: —Eangitaiki Land Drainage Act Amendment, Local Railways and Local Railways Boards. The Public Funds for Local Works, Whangarei Harbor Empowering Bill, and Hauraki Plains Act Amendment, were read a third time and passed. The Onehunga Harbor Bill was read a first time.
The Hon. Fisher moved the second reading of the National Provident Fund Amendment Bill. He pointed out that the Bill was designed to encourage those who were willing and anxious to make provision for themselves. Local bodies were given the opportunity to subsidise premiums paid by their employees. There was no desire to interfere with the good work done by friendly societies. The Bill was read a second time. The Customs Amendment Bill was read a second time, without debate. Hon. F. M. B. Fisher moved the second reading of the Fire Brigades Amendment Bill, which was agreed to without debate. The House rose at 9. p.m.
