TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held at the Board’s office, New Plymouth, on Wednesday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs H. Trimble, G. A. Adlara, J. Young, R. Masters, F. Mackay, A. H. Halcombe, Marfell and A. Morton. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. Mr P. S. Whitcombe took the chair and called for nominations for the position of chairman. On the motion of Messrs A. Morton and G. A. Adlam, Mr H. Trimble was unanimously re-elected chairman. The mover said that he felt that he was voicing the feelings and opinions of the Board when he said that Mr Trimble had carried out his duties as chairman and had generally looked after the interests of the Board in a first-class manner. Everything Mr Trimble undertook, he carried out to the best of his ability and did thoroughly. Mr Trimble had also exhibited zeal and enthusiasm and the interests of education had been well looked after by him.
Mr Adlam endorsed these remarks
In returning thanks, Mr Trimble modestly deprecated the praise accorded him. It had always been his endeavour to further the Board’s interests, although sometimes things had’ not been done quite as well as he would have wished. This perhaps was inseparable from the position as chairman of a local body, for there were occasions when private business demanded attention and Board matters could not receive immediate attention. He had always received the generous support of - the members of the Board, without which no chairman could hope to succeed. ' In cases where various matters were referred to him, he had always endeavoured to ascertain the wishes of the members most directly concerned and had always worked with the. other members. He trusted that the Board would continue in existence and that the portion of the Education Bill referring to its abolition would not be passed, as they had every reason to believe it would not be. He would sincerely- regret if it were, because 110 was certain that if Taranaki were merged, and placed at the fag-end of the district, Taranaki would not be as well looked after as at present. In conclusion, he thanked the members for the honor done him, and again asked them to co-operate with hitfi. (Applause). NEW MEMBERS. The chairman congratulated those members who had been re-elected, and he especially welcomed Mr Mackay, as representing the east ward. He felt assured that Mr Mackay would prove a very useful member, as his father had been years ago. Mr Mackay briefly replied.
