The Chamber of Commerce war food fund amounts to £IB.OOO, In a letter Mr Mark Foy states that he loft Sydney in the German steamer Coblenz on July 25 for Hong Kong, and when lie reached German New Guinea, they heard war had been declared. The Coblenz landed her passengers and left hurriedly for a neutral port. The passengers were stranded, but they chartered a cutter in order to reach a port and get a steamer for China. The cutter was wrecked and the passengers picked up and taken to Yap, in the Caroline Islands, where they now are.

(Yap is an island of the Caroline Group in the North Pacific Ocean, and is ten miles long; purchased by Germany in 1899).
