HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated August 22nd: —
Mutton.—Better demand, in anticipation of higher prices as the result of small arrivals in the near future. Canterbury mutton, 5Jd for 15ght weight; heavy weight, sd; North Island sd; ewes, 4i[d. Lamb.—Market steady, moderate demand. Canterbury twos, 6|d; other than Canterbury, 6|d, for light weight. Beef.—Good demand continues. New Zealand hinds 6jd, fores 5Jd. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. Hinds 6Jd, fores Argentine shipments are decreasing. Only 11,000 quarters were shipped last week.
Butter.—Marke't very quiet, and prices irregular. Danish 126 sto 1345, Siberian 116 sto 1265, Irish creamery 110 s to 120 s, Australian 110 s to'l2os.
Cheese.—Market quiet and rather steadier. Canadian white and colored 70s to 725, New Zealand white and colored 70s to 725; white, exceptional, 745. For English Cheddar the market is quiet, and prices slightly weaker at 76s to 82s. Wool.—Market firm for crossbreds suitable for army clothing. Prices are |d higher- than the closing rates of last sale, the manufacturers being busy with Government contracts.
