GERMANS DRIVEN BACK AT SEVERAL POINTS.

A two days’ battle was fought at Gumbinnen, where General-Lieutenant Rennonkampff’s third army corps was opposed by three German army corps and 200 guns, and. gained a victory which is of great strategic value. The Germans were driven across the River Angerapp. They lost many guns. The Russians’ left completely enveloped the remnants.
The Russians are holding the lake regions.
Russians have occupied Johannisberg and Oertelsburg, and are now sweeping the environs of Sterhurg. They captured Darkeleon, 20 miles south of Insterburg. The Gormans evacuated Neidenburg, first setting it afire. The Russians have occuiped Soldau, and are now threatening the German lines of communication.
It is reported that the Germans lost two-thirds of their effectives.
