DETAILS OF THE CRUISER ZENTA DISASTER.
Rome, August 24
The newspaper Corriere della Sera publishes details of the sinking of the Austrian cruiser Zenta. The torpedoers sighted the Zenta and three smaller vessels doing blockade duty off Cattaro. They opened fire on them, and tore holes in the Zenta’s sides. The Zenta replied at long intervals, but the shots went wide of the mark, Austrian torpedoers also fired. An English torpedoer went alongside, sinking the cruiser and rescuing 200, of whom 50 subsequently died of injuries. The Zenta had 100 aboard who had been wounded by the Montenegrin sharp-shooters from the forts.
