To-morrow morning sixty additional West Coasters leave to join the others in camp at Addington. Men are freely offering and are of excellent stamp. To-night -Mr Tom Pollard gave an entertainment in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The Opera House was crowded to the doors. Miss Lily Chapman gave “The Absent-minded Beggar” as a monologue, and her appeal found a ready response. The Liedertafel sang a number of patriotic songs, the audience joining in heartily. The gross proceeds, amounting to £IOB, were haned over to the funds.

Mr Pollard has announced that he will hand over the gross proceeds of the picture entertainment on the second Monday in each month while the war lasts.

Football teams are almost depleted through members going to the front. Eight West Coast representative footballers have been selected, and the Rugby Union meets to-morrow night to consider the advisability of closing the competitions. Each member of the Greymouth Waterside Workers’ Union gives sixpence per week to the Patriotic Fund while the war lasts. The War Fhnd totals over £I3OO.

Westport, August 17. The Westport Harbor Board has voted £SOO to the War Fund. Auckland, August 17.

The Auckland Citizens’ Patriotic Fund now amounts to about £29,000. Several hundred more men were drafted into the local mobilisation camp at Epsom to-day, and hy Wednesday it is anticipated that the whole of the Auckland portion of the expeditionary force will have been mobilised. The camp will be inspected by General Godley to-morrow. Wellington, August 17.

Mr J. G. Wilson, Dominion President of the Farmers’ Union, has sent the following telegram to the Canterbury executive:—“l hope the Farmers’ Union will assist in Mr Massey’s appeal to farmers to grow more wheat. Every acre grown will feed eight men for a year. Farmers are rallying everywhere in assisting to provide food, horses, men and money for the expeditionary force, hut at the present moment, before it is too late in the season, the most patriotic thing that farmers and their men can do is to got as much wheat in as possible. 1 have had an assurance of plenty tf assistance at harvest time from townsmen.” . Christchurch, August 17. The police arrested a young German reservist in Christchurch to-day. He will be sent up to Wellington under military escort to-night. Pahiatua, August 17.

To date Pahiatua has subscribed nearly £IOO to the war fluid. . Pongaroa has given £3OO, and many horses arid expeditionary requisites have been donated.

Hawera, August 18,

Another contingent of mounted men have gone to join the expeditionary force, and further hatches will follow during the week. The Egmont Racing Club has given £2OO to the patriotic war fund, which will bring the total just upon £IOOO. The enrolments in the new settlors’ yeomanry corps and in the local company .of national reserves are proceeding .satisfactorily. Members of both corps are exceedingly enthusiastic, and will offer their services to the Govornemnt if required. .

THE TROOPSHIPS.

- Wellington, August 18'. It is understood the following vessels have been definitely chosen for the transport of troops and horses: The A theme, Waimana, Willochra, Tahiti, hud Star of India. The Ruapehu and Manganui will also be chartered on arrival from Australia. A number of smaller steamers are being fitted up to bring the mounts to the centres of embarkation. The troop ships are having their names painted out, and will be known by numbers. The Imperial authorities have arranged for the use of the above vessels and others as required, the terms being left over for settlement later on. WANGANUI. An enthusiastic meeting of the old Naval Association last night resolved to offer a company of sixty-live for Home defence.
