Wanganui played a representative match with Wairarapa. The first spell was very even, the score being 6 points to 3in favor of the home team. The Taranaki Rugby League repre-' sentative team played a challenge match on Saturday against the Auckland representatives. The match, which was witnessed by 4000 spectators, was won by Auckland jby 3o points to 4, and the local team thus retains possession of the New Zealand challenge cup. In the first spe4l scoring was fairly even. Hooker kicked two goals for Taranaki, and Bennett scored a try for Auckland, which Savoury converted. In the second spell Auckland monopolised the scoring, and tries were scored by Savoury, Clarke, Seager, Walters, Fricker and Rogers.

The Canterbury-Auckland representative Rugby Union football match was played here yesterday in fine weather, and resulted in Auckland winning by 11 points to 3.

Another attempt will be made on Thursday to take the, Ranfurly Shield away—this time by Canterbury, at Xew Plymouth. Taranaki will bo considerably weakened with the loss of Dewar and Young, who did so much against Wairarapa last week. Canterbury have the reputation of having oue of the best packs in Xew Zealand.
